Back Issue: April 30, 2004 | Last September, Gallaudet’s Delta Sigma Phi fraternity officially adopted a one-mile stretch of Interstate 395 in the Crystal City area of Northern Virginia. The fraternity signed a two-year agreement with the Virginia Department of Transportation [VDOT] to remove trash and other debris from that section of I-395 at least four times a year. "I’ve seen many signs where businesses and other groups, including fraternities and sororities, have signed up to help keep the highways clean," said Raymond Clark, a member of Delta Sigma Phi. "I asked VDOT to be sure our sign stated that we are a Gallaudet University fraternity, since I noticed that most signs just give the fraternity’s name, not the college or university where they belong. Pictured with the Adopt a Highway sign are Delta Sigma Phi members (from left): Miguel Centero, Kyle Emard, Travis Hayes, Aaron Waheed, John Lopez, Tyler Miller, and Evan Levenson. |
