Back Issue: May 13, 2005 | President Jordan describes architectural details of Chapel Hall to Princess Mathilde of Belgium shortly after her arrival at Gallaudet on April 21 for a campus tour. The princess, who was a speech teacher before her marriage to Prince Philippe, began her visit at House One with a luncheon hosted by Dr. Jordan and Linda Jordan that also was attended by several campus administrators and students, representatives from the Belgian Embassy, and other guests. During lunch, the students told Princess Mathilde about their experiences growing up deaf, about Gallaudet, and their plans following graduation. The visitors then received a brief tour of Kendall Green that included stops at the Andrew Foster Auditorium and the Student Academic Center, where they were greeted by over 200 students lining the halls waiting to get a glimpse of the princess. The tour ended with an observation of assistant professor of business Bernard Brown’s “Management and Organizational Behavior” class. The event was covered extensively by Belgian media. |
