Back Issue: July 15, 2005 | The Center for Academic Programs and Services (CAPSS) held an assessment workshop June 6 and 7 for its 40 members to demonstrate the teaching role of academic support staff and to provide faculty and staff with the knowledge and abilities necessary to assess student learning outcomes. Units in CAPSS include Academic Advising, the Career Center, the Office for Students with Disabilities, the First Year Experience, the Office of International Programs and Services (OIPS), and Tutorial and Instructional Programs. The opening day of the workshop featured a presentation entitled “Enriching the Academic Experience: Assessing Academic Outcomes” by Dr. Victoria McGillin, assistant provost and dean of studies at Wheaton College in Norton, Mass., who was recently appointed associate provost of Texas Women’s University in Denton, Tex. She has served as a consultant to numerous colleges and universities on advising, curriculum development, assessment, and program development and written extensively on the topics. Here, McGillin (third from left) is pictured speaking with members of OIPS at a breakout session following her talk. (Also pictured is GIS interpreter Bobby Loeffler, second from left.) |
