The Partners in Education program supports collaborative efforts between schools and partnering organizations to foster a better understanding of public education and to provide additional resources intended to benefit students. Gallaudet became involved in the program last fall after receiving a request by George Washington Middle School of Alexandria, Va., to partner with Gallaudet as a way to inspire the middle school students to strive for higher education, and to learn about and appreciate deaf people. Jacobs and Janne Harrelson, the University’s Regional/National Outreach Programs and Services director, visited the school and helped arrange opportunities for the students to partner with Gallaudet. Clerc Center staff members Roberta Gage, visitors and partnership specialist, and Jandi Arboleda, evaluation associate, were also directly involved in this effort. Gallaudet was nominated for the award by Gladys Knights, George Washington’s lead teacher for the 6th grade team.
